I thought I'd try something a little different this time. Lotsa pictures, but there's a visual description at the bottom, too!

Visual Description!
(Strip one: Three panels of details of a young couple, photo from the 1960s.)
Once you told me that you were done with people. You'd had enough. They were all the same. (I wouldn't understand.)
You said you were breaking up with her. And spending the money you'd saved up for the ring on other things.
---
(Strip two: Three panels of details of children at a birthday party, photo from the 1960s. We see cake and smiling children.)
An Xbox doesn't have a birthday, you said. Nothing to forget. And I said. There's nothing to forget, but there's nothing to remember. An Xbox doesn't have birthday cake. No frosting fights or silly hats. No memories to turn into stories to turn into tradition.
Nobody to say remember when:
'You barely came up to my knee'
'The first time I saw you behind the wheel'
'We shared a drink on your 21st'
----
(Strip three: Three panels of details of a vintage Greetings From California postcard. The letters are filled in with illustrations of famous CA sites.)
You said an HDTV doesn't ask me where I'm going. There's nobody waiting up worrying. And I said. There's nobody worrying about you, but there's nobody caring about you, either. (An HDTV doesn't sweep you off, spur-of-the-moment on a fantastic interstate road trip adventure.)
An HDTV doesn't send you postcards that say:
'I saw this and thought of you'
'I wish you were here'
'I can't wait to see your smile again'
----
(Strip four: Three panels of details of an empty road with telephone poles along the road.)
A dirt bike won't say the wrong thing. There's nobody to let me down. You said. And I said. There's nobody to let you down. But there's nobody to lift you up either. A dirt bike won't answer your texts at 1:00 am when you can't sleep. (Even if they live in NYC and it's a whole hour later.)
A dirt bike won't say things like:
'You've done it before and you can do it again'
'I love you. I believe in you'
'I'm not hanging up until I hear you smile'
----
(Strip five: three panels. The first one is of a boy in a school photo from the 1950s, the second is a grey blurry panel, and the third is a young girl in a school photo from the 1950s.)
Stuff is nice. Not real. I said.
And then you said. I'm hanging up on you. (And you did, without the slightest smile in your voice.)
I didn't hear from you for a long time.
Until...
----
(Strip six: Three panels. The first one has a postmark over a moth stamp. The second and third are images of birds flying against a rainbow sky.)
One day I got a postcard. It had birds on the front, and a rainbow. It said I wish you were here.
And I really do, you wrote on the back, because you wouldn't see a dirt bike in my driveway. Or an HDTV on my wall. Not even an Xbox.
But you would see her ring. And how it shines when she smile. It's the realest thing I've ever seen in my life.
Thanks or mebbe apologies go to a softer world, where Iblatantly stole borrowed the beautiful format. And to Family Old Photos where I got most of the photos. Nope, the pictures aren't me, so that's even bearing false witness too, right? XD
Plus the photos are mostly from the 'unidentified' category...so if you see somebody you recognize, lemme know, I guess? X3
Last but not ever least, this entry is brought to you by
therealljidol, which is filled with much awesomesauce and cream filling.

Date: 2009-11-18 07:38 am (UTC)Honestly? Thank you. It means a lot. ♥
And yeaaaah, it's kinda tricky explainin' how it exactly fits the topic and I kinda hem 'n hawed about writing more meta to explain it, but I kinda decided against it.
BUT SINCE YOU ASKED. XD The point is kinda that STUFF bears false witness, if that makes sense. It distracts us from the real important things, the real things. In short, it distracts us from the love of other living things. :3

Date: 2009-11-19 03:10 am (UTC)I did notice a tiny typo that I thought you might like to know about. In the third still on the second row you say 'the first i time saw you'. I think you meant 'the first time i saw you'. -smile-

I was a little worried that it'd be too hard to read, and maybe next time I'd make the text bold!
Thank you! ♥
